What is Zelle ® ?

Zelle ® is a fast, safe and easy way to send money to, and receive money from, people and eligible small businesses you know and trust who have a bank account in the U.S. -- typically in minutes when both sender and receiver are already enrolled with Zelle ® at their financial institution or in the Zelle ® app .

After enrolling with Zelle ® using your email address or U.S. mobile phone number, here’s how a typical send transaction works:

  1. Set up contact. You will need to add your trusted recipient as a contact in the Zelle feature. You can use their US mobile phone number or email address. Please note that if the recipient is not already enrolled with Zelle, you can only use their email address when requesting funds.
  2. Send or request. Select the send or request function in Zelle, choose the recipient, and carefully review and validate the details of your payment or request before you send it. As most payments are sent in minutes between enrolled users, sending money with Zelle is much like exchanging cash.
  3. Recipient is notified. Depending on how you set up your contact, the recipient will be notified by email or text message with the details of your request. If the recipient is not enrolled with Zelle, the notification will include instructions on how to enroll to receive or send money at their financial institution or in the Zelle app. They will have fourteen (14) days to complete their one-time enrollment using the same email address or US mobile phone number you used to send or request the payment.
  4. Money is sent. Once your recipient has enrolled and linked their eligible account to their email or U.S. mobile phone number, the money is sent directly to the recipient's account, and is available typically in minutes.

Even if you don’t plan to send money with Zelle ® , you may want to enroll with Zelle ® using an eligible account and your U.S. mobile phone number or email address. Then if someone wants to send you money with Zelle ® , the money can be quickly sent to your account.
